What is it?

Perioral dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin around the mouth. The rash may spread up to the nose or even the eyes.
It usually appears as quite dry, scaly or red bumpy rash around the mouth. White heads are very common and a slight itching sensation is quite normal for this condition. Women are more prone to getting perioral dermatitis.

Since the causes of perioral dermatitis vary and the cause isn’t completely understood, there isn’t a foolproof way to avoid getting it. However we can eliminate some triggers that can set this condition off. Eg Get rid of harsh abrasive scrubs and cleansers this naturally damages the skin and barrier function. Over use of these certain products leaves the skin open to bacteria and infections. Makeup products try to use a brand that is a mineral makeup rather then cosmetic. As chemicals can also irritate the skin. Spicy hot foods you need to avoid as it can inflame the condition and also the use of steroid creams.
