Microblading, sometimes better known as Eyebrow Feathering or Feathertouch Eyebrows is your way to fuller, more defined, low maintenance eyebrows! MORE INFO PLEASE!!!
I will be discussing a few commonly asked questions about Microblading, but first, I’d like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Ellyse and I am a senior Beauty Therapist with over 10 years’ experience. I love many different aspects of the beauty industry but have a keen interest for brows, this is what led me into microblading and I have loved every minute of it since. I love to see an instant result in my work and gain a sense of satisfaction when I have achieved my clients desires. I also love to make people feel good about themselves and really listen to what they want to get out of each appointment, and if that is a new set of brows, then I’m your girl!
What is microblading?
Microblading is a process in which a technician uses a hand held tool to implant high quality pigment into the dermal layer (top layer) of the skin in a hair-like stroke pattern to mimic the natural brow. It is a semi-permanent treatment that can be expected to last up to 18 months before needing a touch up. These pigments are designed to gradually fade to ensure changing of colour does not occur in the skin. Colours, shape, thickness and style are all dependent on each individual client and their brows.
Who is microblading suitable for?
Microblading is suitable for most skin types other than very oily or thickened skin. If your skin is one of these unsuitable types, you may want to consider a different form of cosmetic tattoo that uses a machine instead. This is often knows as ombre, powder or mist brow tattoo.
Microblading is for a person that wants less maintenance of their eyebrows on a daily basis. It is great for creating more denseness, lengthening the brow, giving a more ‘filled in’ look or changing the shape to create symmetry. Please note, microblading does not change the natural hair growth of the brow and you will have to continue hair removal and tinting if these are things you already do. What it will do is eliminate the brow part of your morning routine, saving you lots of valuable time and frustration when you just can’t seem to get them right!
Who can’t have microblading?
Unfortunately there are a few things that will stand in the way of you getting this treatment. As mentioned before, oily or thickened skin types are a no-go.
Pregnant and lactating clients are also a contraindication to this treatment.
If you have one of the following medical concerns:
Diabetes, autoimmune or communicable diseases, keloid scarring, shingles on the face and some others.
You will need to wait a certain amount of time before having a treatment if you have taken the following medication/s:
Antibiotics (at least 4 weeks after the course)
Accutane (at least 12 months)
Medication containing Lithium (at least 6 months)
Anti-inflammatories or pain killers (at least 48 hours)
Caffeine and alcohol (at least 24 hours)
A few other things that may affect the treatment being performed are Botox or fillers. Please wait for these to have their full effect before microblading. It is also recommended to have these done prior to microblading.
Please chat to me about the following before booking in:
Any medications you are taking. Some may have an effect on the way your skin heals and retains the pigment.
You will need a doctors clearance if you have/have had:
Cancer or undergoing treatment for cancer such as chemotherapy.
What can you expect from the treatment?
Firstly, there is little to no pain involved. Some clients have experienced a slight scratching sensation or a little sting when the pigment is placed on the skin. This is because numbing is used prior to the treatment, so really, nothing to worry about!
We will have a thorough consultation prior to beginning the treatment whereby we discuss everything from shape and colour to what you want to achieve. If you are not sure, I will help you through the process. You may also have a consult only with me where we can discuss all of this and draw a shape to see if you would like to eventually go ahead with the treatment.
I start by mapping and measuring the face and shape of the brows, draw an outline with a pencil for you to see. This part is the most tedious as we want to get it right before we begin! The shape will be as perfect and symmetrical as possible, and then we start. The first ‘pass’ of strokes is to outline the shape, the pigment is then ‘soaked’ into the skin and the same process is repeated again, where I will fill in the rest of the shape. You will leave with freshly tattooed brows that have a strict but easy aftercare process to follow.
You cannot wet or touch them for 5-7 days, this includes excessive sweating on the face and also makeup on or close to the brows. It is best to have this done at least a week before any important events on. Some people are conscious that everyone is staring at their brows because they may look darker, but is not something to worry about in my opinion.
You will then come back 6-8 weeks later for your touch-up appointment which is included. This appointment is necessary and important because the skin does not always heal and retain the pigment perfectly. In the second appointment, we will perfect the strokes that may have faded more than others and make any necessary changes such as thickness, length and colour.
Touch ups – when you need to have them done
As mentioned earlier, the tattoo is semi-permanent and will last up to 18 months. This is dependent on a few factors. Skin type, lifestyle, skin care used and personal preference. You may prefer to let them fade almost completely before having them re-done, and some may choose to have a re-touch after 50% has faded. Neither is right or wrong, however we can discuss what you like at your first appointment and I can recommend when you might like to have them re-done. Keep in mind, this part is different for every client and some may want or need them re-done after 6 months. The price differs based on how long between sessions.
I hope this answers all, if not most, of your questions regarding Microblading!
